Do a PhD in the Capital Markets (IT or Finance)

Have you ever wondered if you could identify fraud on the stock marker or measure the impact of events or regulatory changes?  The Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre is conducting leading-edge R&D in real-time security market surveillance.  We work with several high profile partners including the SMARTS Group (www.smartsgroup.com) and other innovators who are the world leaders in real-time security market surveillance; 37 national exchanges and regulators and 150 brokers across 30 countries testify to influence.  Whether your area of expertise is currently IT or finance, we have a great variety of interesting problems for you to work on such as measuring the economic impact of changes in market design (technology, regulation, information, participants and instruments) in order to identify the most efficient mechanisms by which securities should be traded. Or perhaps you'd like to build transaction monitoring systems (deploying data management, mining and visualization) capable of real-time monitoring the entire world securities markets?

We're addressing key issues affecting the integrity of the world's securities markets.  Our belief is that the higher the integrity of these markets, the more interest will be shown by investors.  So we're looking at a variety of technology that can help us to solve this problem including data modeling, horizontal scalability, peer-to-peer networking, machine learning, text mining (text analytics), data mining, management, visualisation and scalability.

We currently have extremely generous PhD scholarships for Australian and International students!  See http://www.cmcrc.com/scholarships/index.html
