I am letting the group organise itself by keeping my involvement and interference to the bare minimum (I identify and promptly remove obvious spammers through!). I want the main discussion threads to establish themselves to see what the group members have in common and what they are actually interested in. I would like the key participants of the group to ultimately join this forum as it is far better structured, but this is not that can happen overnight. It is a slow gradual process.

Any suggestions?

People probably don't do anything on linkedin apart from connecting to each other and joining groups. My guess is that they don't even notice that your group is associated with any exogenous forum at all. Another problem is that the forum is half-dead most of the time.

I don't know how busy you are, but a couple of social events could bring a necessary sparkle. A couple of guys that you meet in a pub might be well enough to liven up the forum after that.
