Title: Is it algo trading?
Post by mrtempting on 06/24/11 at 22:20:52

Hi y'all!

I am currently implementing a price momentum strategy with the API interface of IB.
The strategy will buy / shortsell the winners / losers of each week. All positions will be closed after one week unless a stock is ranked within the winner or loser portfolio again.

Would that be considered algo trading?

Thanks!

Christian

Hi Christian,

Thank you for joining our forum!

Yes, that would be considered algo trading. I hope you successfully implement your strategy and become very profitable. Have you quantified the edge by now?

Generally, there is a big confusion about algorithmic trading. Most people tend to think of system trading as algorithmic trading. Algorithmic trading is more about execution of big orders rather than deciding which orders to place.
